COVID-19 Update | April 3, 2020
On March 27, San Antonio news media announced that Southeast Nursing and Rehabilitation had positive COVID-19 cases in their community.
That same evening, The Village at Incarnate Word management identified a nurse that worked for both The Village and Southeast Nursing and Rehabilitation.
This nurse was immediately removed from The Village’s work schedule and instructed not to report to work. Prior to this, the nurse had only been assigned to work in The Village’s nursing facility section, DeMatel Extended Care, and had not worked in any other care areas. This nurse last worked at The Village on Wednesday, March 25.
The Village was notified on April 2, the nurse in question had tested positive for COVID-19. Between the nurses’ last day worked at The Village and the test result notification, nine days elapsed.
Currently, there is no indication the virus is in our community. Our residents and staff are healthy and not exhibiting any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. In the abundance of caution, we continue to monitor our residents and staff daily while working with state and local authorities to ensure we are taking all appropriate action.
We take this threat seriously and are aggressively following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s strategies and regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
This is a difficult time for many, and we at The Village at Incarnate Word are grateful for the support of all our residents, their families, our dedicated staff, and our state and local health authorities for their support.
With gratitude,
Paul Harrison
