COVID-19 Update | April 10, 2020

Yesterday, Metro Health confirmed an employee of The Village at Incarnate Word tested positive for COVID-19. This employee worked in our independent living, not in The Village’s nursing facility, memory care, or assisted living. This employee did not provide direct resident care. We have no reason to believe this case is related to the nurse who worked both at The Village and Southeast Nursing and Rehab. The two individuals did not work in the same building and would not have had contact. There are no other Village employees with a positive COVID-19 test, and there are no residents at The Village with a positive test. Metro Health’s contact investigators are currently working this employee’s case.

The Village takes this very seriously. We continue daily monitoring of our residents and staff. Staff body temperatures are taken at least twice every shift. Visitation to our assisted living, memory care, and nursing facility has been restricted since March 13. Visitation to our independent living has been restricted since March 20. We will continue to work with Metro Health and Texas Health and Human Services to ensure we follow the appropriate strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in long-term care communities.

As a precaution, independent living residents are now quarantined to their rooms. We will continue to ensure residents receive their packages and mail, make any necessary physician appointments, and are well served.

I understand the anxiety and fear people are experiencing. We welcome all calls from families, and we will continue to provide updates in the coming days.

Most sincerely,

Paul Harrison

CEO
