COVID-19 Update | June 26, 2020
Dear Family Members:
The Village received notice yesterday afternoon that an employee who works in our independent living areas has tested positive for COVID-19. This employee is asymptomatic and came into direct contact with four residents. Although the employee wore a face mask, The Village is taking steps as a precaution against the potential infection and spread of the virus. This employee does not work in DeMatel House (extended care) or Angelique House (assisted living/memory care).
All independent living residents and residents in Alphonse House assisted living, are under quarantine. Management has suspended all small group resident programming and resident meals are being delivered via room service. Village staff will resume delivering all packages and mail to resident rooms.
The four residents that were exposed are scheduled to be tested next Monday, June 29 by the Alamo Heights Fire Department. If the four residents test negative they will remain in quarantine for the remainder of the 14-day period. The other residents will come out of quarantine with restrictions remaining in place for communal dining and programming. If we have a resident test positive the quarantine will remain in place and additional steps will be communicated to you and your loved one.
Residents have been instructed to notify the front desk if they begin experiencing fever, shortness of breath, and/or a cough. Residents that did not have direct contact with the employee are encouraged to keep their dentist and doctor appointments. Additionally, residents have been reminded they must wear their facemask, practice good hand hygiene – washing their hands often and using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and to maintain at least six feet of social distance between individuals when out of their apartments.
The Village’s visitation restrictions, along with mandatory use of face masks, remain in place for the health and safety or our residents. Employees and other essential personnel continue to be screened for COVID including body temperature checks upon entering the community. We have recently signed a contract with our lab vendor to begin monthly random sampling of employees for testing. This testing will being in July.
Please, feel free to call the community with any questions. My extension is 147. You may also ask to speak with Jeanette Eisenmenger, The Village COO, or Lynda Jennings, The Village VP of Clinical Services and Compliance. We will provide an update next week.
As we know, this virus will continue to challenge us in the months to come, so thank you for your continued cooperation, support and prayers.
Chief Executive Officer
