COVID-19 Update | October 22, 2020

October 22, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members:

It is hard to believe that 8 months have passed since the beginning of the pandemic.

We remain vigilant and follow state and local required COVID-19 prevention guidance. Most recently we entered an arrangement with Metro Health to begin weekly testing of the employees working in DeMatel extended care. We have also continued monthly testing of the staff and residents in assisted living, memory care, and extended care. Testing requirements are driven by Bexar county’s positivity rate and whether or not a community has active cases. The Village at Incarnate Word has been blessed as we have had no positive employee or resident cases for several weeks. Thank you for your prayers!

As you recall, in September TVIW instituted a COVID-19 fee of $35 per month, per resident, to recoup some of the cost our operation has incurred in responding to the pandemic. This fee will be terminated at month’s end so starting in November this fee will cease.

We have started to transition outdoor visitation to indoor visitation beginning with independent living and Alphonse House assisted living. We are continuing the process with Angelique House assisted living and memory care in the coming weeks. In addition, have recently been approved for indoor visits in DeMatel extended care. Because our nursing home population is the most vulnerable to the virus, we are taking the process cautiously and will be communicating the protocol for indoor visits soon. We are excited that residents and their loved ones now have an opportunity to visit.

Please be reminded that during visits both residents and families must follow the guidance provided by the TVIW employee facilitating the visit. Also, please know that the rules and regulations around visitation are subject to change as pandemic variables such as the county’s positivity rate change.

Unrelated to the pandemic, I would also invite you to visit TVIW’s website (www.TheVillageIW.org) which has been updated recently. Families may also feel free to join us for Mass online. Mass is streamed on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thevillageatincarnateword) every Friday at 10:30 am from St. Joseph’s Chapel. You do not need a Facebook account to view.

Stay safe and well,
Paul Harrison
