COVID-19 Updates | October 23, 2020

October 23, 2020

Dear Residents and Family Members,

As mentioned in my most recent letter, The Village at Incarnate Word continues mandated COVID-19 testing of employees and residents. Yesterday, the residents living in Alphonse House assisted living and Angelique House assisted living were tested as well as the employees that work in those areas.

All resident tests were negative but unfortunately 3 employees tested positive. One employee is a caregiver in Angelique House and the other two employees work in our dietary department. Of the two dietary employees, one works in Angelique House and the other is a member of the waitstaff that works in independent living.

Due to the positive tests, residents must quarantine through November 5 as a precaution against the possible infection and spread of the virus.

This quarantine will be managed differently than past quarantines. The primary difference is meal service will not be delivered via room service in independent living. Residents may go to either the main dining room or bistro and pick-up a meal to-go. There will be no dining in the main dining room or bistro during the quarantine.

Times for picking up meals are:

  • • 6:00 am to 9:00 am for breakfast
  • • 11:00 am to 2:00 pm for lunch
  • • 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm dinner

All group activities are suspended, but the Mass can be viewed on channel 1890 and exercise classes on channel 1893 on your TV. Per Texas Health and Human Services rules, family visitation is also suspended. Once the quarantine is over, The Village will reapply for visitation approval with HHS.

Residents, when you leave your apartment, please ensure you wear your facemask. Masks should cover your nose and mouth. If you need your mask replaced, please contact the front desk. Additionally, continue to practice good hand hygiene, washing your hands often and using alcohol-based hand sanitizers. As always, please maintain at least six feet of social distance between individuals.

Family members, you are also encouraged to notify the community if your loved one is reporting to you that they are not feeling well. You may call the front desk and ask to speak with Concierge and/or Resident Services. Concierge is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Resident Services is available 8a to 5p Monday thru Friday.

Residents living in our assisted livings and in extended care are monitored daily for signs and symptoms of the virus. As part of our ongoing surveillance, next week testing will be carried out in Angelique House assisted living and DeMatel extended care.

We understand the concerns around COVID-19 in our community. Please know that we remain committed to protecting residents and employees, remaining transparent in our communication, and staying connected to residents and families during this time.

Kindest regards to all,

Paul Harrison

President and CEO
