COVID-19 Updates | August 18, 2021
August 18, 2021
Dear Village at Incarnate Word Residents and Families:
The past few weeks have been challenging as our nation struggles with the COVID Delta variant surge.
Since this surge began The Village has had three residents and four staff test positive for COVID. The three residents are in independent living with two having recovered. Three of the four staff work in DeMatel extended care and the fourth employee works in our dietary department. All infected residents and staff had been vaccinated.
Residents in DeMatel are currently under quarantine and being monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID. The infected staff members are home isolating.
The Village is currently mandating the COVID vaccine for staff while allowing for a medical and/or religious exemption. The current national percent for vaccinated staff is 58.4% and the national average for senior living residents is 81.3%. The Village’s staff vaccination percentage is 97% and resident vaccination percentage is 99%. The small group of unvaccinated employees are tested twice each week.
Our breakthrough cases do underscore the importance of continuing to be proactive in keeping each other safe.
Please be reminded that all visitors must be screened for COVID-19 and wear a mask while visiting. If you are unvaccinated, we ask that you wear an N95 while visiting. If you do not have an N95 please ask our receptionist and one will be provided to you. Visits must continue in resident rooms only. Visitors can not be in common areas such as the dining room.
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID such as a cough, sore throat, fever, body aches, and nausea and vomiting please do not visit.
We are also encouraging families to only make essential visits until this surge subsides. For example, to take a loved one to an appointment, to drop off groceries, etc.
We certainly hope and pray that this surge resolves over the next few weeks.
Please, feel free to call the community with any questions. My extension is 140. You may also ask to speak with Jeanette Eisenmenger, The Village COO (extension 157), or Lynda Jennings, The Village VP of Clinical Services and Compliance (extension 213).
Kindest regards to all,
